*Herrerasaurus* is a genus of early saurischian dinosaur from the **Late Triassic period**. Measuring around 6 m (20 ft) long and weighing roughly 350 kg (770 lb), it is one of the earliest dinosaurs known from the fossil record.
Its name means **"Herrera's lizard"**, honoring the rancher who discovered its remains.

## Appearance
- Slender, agile theropod with a long tail for balance
- Narrow skull with sharp, serrated teeth suited for slicing prey
- Strong hind limbs built for sprinting and rapid pursuit
- Short but powerful forelimbs with grasping claws
- In-game size: **10 blocks long** and **3 blocks tall**

## Behavior
- **Hostile**: Will attack players and most mobs on sight
- Shows aggressive pursuit behavior, chasing prey over long distances
- Prefers open plains and rocky terrain where it can use its speed effectively
- May roar or posture when encountering other predators

## Obtaining
Herrerasaurus does not spawn naturally. To obtain one, you must:
1. Find ![](@jurassic-saga:textures/item/natural/entity/animal/v2/extinct/herrerasaurus/herrerasaurus_fossil_remains) [**Herrerasaurus Remains**]($content/items/fossil) or fossils
2. Use the fossil revival process to create a Herrerasaurus
3. Hatch from an **Alligator Egg** type egg

## Diet
- **Carnivore**: feeds on <img src="https://i.imgur.com/4K6xsJA.gif" width={32} height={32} style={{imageRendering: "pixelated"}}/> meat sources
- Hunts small to medium-sized creatures and scavenges when necessary

- Herrerasaurus has a very perplexing and confusing morphology, so much so that scientists to this day still don't know if it was a theropod, a saurischian even, or worse, if it was even a dinosaur! Not even Jurassic Park's scientists have been able to figure this out yet!
- Herrerasaurus lived in the Late Triassic in what is now Argentina, alongside animals such as Sillosuchus and Ischigualastia!
- Herrerasaurus was one of the largest dinosaurs (if it was even a dinosaur) from the Triassic period, comparable to others like Liliensternus and Gojirasaurus
- The achievement "Fast Mover, Beautiful Markings" references a line spoken in the Jurassic Park: The Game species profile on Herrerasaurus.
