# Genetic Analyzer

The Genetic Analyzer is an early-stage machine used to extract DNA from biological samples.  
It is the first step in the genetic engineering process and is required before synthesizing embryos or applying genetic modifications.

## Functionality

- **Type**: DNA extraction machine
- **Processes**: Biological samples into Species DNA, Plant DNA, or random drops
- **Accepts**: Fossils, remains, ambers, and deposits
- **Processing Time**: Varies based on sample quality
- **Success Rate**: Some samples may fail and produce degraded material instead of DNA

## Usage

1. Insert a biological sample (fossil, amber, remains, or deposit) into the input slot
2. The analyzer begins processing automatically
3. Once complete, collect the output from the output slot
4. Species DNA or Plant DNA can then be used in the [**DNA Modifier**]($content/machines/dna_modifier) or other machines

The Genetic Analyzer accepts the following biological samples:
- Fossils (any species)
- Remains (any species)
- Ambers
- Deposits

---

## Possible Outputs

### Successful Extraction
- Species DNA (various dinosaur and creature species)
- Plant DNA

### Failed Extraction (Random Drops)
- Gravel
- Dirt
- Coal
- Sand

When extraction fails, the analyzer produces common materials instead of usable genetic material, representing the degradation of ancient samples.

## Trivia
- The Genetic Analyzer is inspired by the DNA extraction labs seen in *Jurassic Park* (1993), where scientists extracted dinosaur DNA from mosquitoes preserved in amber
- Not all samples produce usable DNA - failed extractions result in common materials like gravel, dirt, coal, or sand, reflecting the difficulty and uncertainty of extracting genetic material from ancient samples
- The Genetic Analyzer operates without requiring any fuel or power source, making it accessible for early-game genetic engineering
