Mob Alignments

Field Guide displays an alignment attribute (Hostile, Neutral, or Passive) for living entities in the entry details view.

By default, Field Guide's built-in tags match the mob classifications from Item Descriptions (which sources from the Minecraft Wiki).

Datapack Entity Tags

You can override or define mob alignments using standard Minecraft entity type tags:

  • Hostile: data/fieldguide/tags/entity_type/hostile.json (#fieldguide:hostile)
  • Neutral: data/fieldguide/tags/entity_type/neutral.json (#fieldguide:neutral)
  • Passive: data/fieldguide/tags/entity_type/passive.json (#fieldguide:passive)

Example: Making a Mob Neutral

data/<namespace>/tags/entity_type/neutral.json:

{
"replace": false,
"values": [
"my_mod:custom_mob"
]
}

Alignment Determination Order

  1. Resource Pack Visual Override: alignment_icon defined in assets/<namespace>/fieldguide/entries/<entry_id>.json.
  2. Datapack Entity Tags: #fieldguide:neutral, #fieldguide:hostile, or #fieldguide:passive.
  3. Fallback entity category heuristics
