TypeOther

The Scientist is a custom villager profession added by Jurassic Saga, specializing in genetic engineering equipment and rare cosmetic genes. These lab-coated experts are essential for obtaining hard-to-find genes and genetic engineering supplies without extensive resource gathering.

Appearance

  • White lab coat with blue wrists
  • Small green dot on the bottom right of the coat's front
  • Lab coat is open all the way down
  • Professional scientific appearance distinct from vanilla villager professions

Job Site Block

Scientists require one of the following machines as their job site block:

Place any of these machines near an unemployed villager to convert them into a Scientist.

Trading

Scientists offer trades that become more valuable as you level them up through trading.

Level 1 (Novice)

Available Trades:

  • Syringe — Essential tool for gene extraction and egg fertilization
  • Empty Test Tube — Basic laboratory equipment

Use Case: Starting genetic engineering work and basic lab supplies.

Level 2 (Apprentice)

Available Trades:

  • Basic Genes — Common functional and cosmetic genes

Use Case: Obtaining genes without farming specific mobs.

Level 3 (Journeyman)

Available Trades:

  • More Genes — Expanded selection of functional and cosmetic genes
  • Rarer Gene Variants — Less common genetic modifications

Use Case: Advanced genetic customization and creature modification.

Level 4 (Expert)

Available Trades:

  • Chaos Effect Gene — Exclusive cosmetic gene with unique appearance
  • Legacy Gene — Classic cosmetic gene variant
  • Special Cosmetic Genes — Rare and unique visual modifications

Use Case: Creating creatures with the rarest and most distinctive appearances.

Level 5 (Master)

Available Trades:

  • Random DNA — A random selected Species DNA, quality varies from 2% to 27%

Use Case: A easier way to obtain a certain species DNA.

Finding Scientists

Converting Villagers

  1. Obtain an Unemployed Villager

    • Breed villagers or find naturally spawned unemployed villagers
    • Ensure the villager has not claimed a different job site block
  2. Place a Job Site Block

    • Place one of the accepted machines (Genetic Analyzer, DNA Modifier, etc.) near the villager
    • The villager must be able to pathfind to the machine
  3. Confirmation

    • The villager will walk to the machine and claim it as their job site
    • Their appearance will change to the Scientist outfit
    • They will begin offering Scientist trades

Village Generation

Scientists may naturally generate in villages if genetic engineering machines are present during world generation (behavior may vary).

Trading Tips

  • Level Up Efficiently: Trade frequently to unlock higher-tier gene trades quickly
  • Multiple Scientists: Create several Scientists to access different gene trades and refresh stock
  • Emerald Conservation: Stock up on emeralds before attempting to purchase rare genes
  • Gene Comparison: Compare Scientist trades with mob extraction using Syringes to find the most efficient method
  • Chaos & Legacy Priority: Save emeralds for Level 4 trades, as Chaos Effect and Legacy genes cannot be obtained any other way

Strategy

Early Game

Focus on Level 1 trades for Syringes to jumpstart your genetic engineering without crafting resources.

Mid Game

Use Level 2-3 trades to supplement gene collection, especially for genes from hard-to-find mobs.

Late Game

Invest in Level 4 trades for exclusive Chaos Effect and Legacy genes that define your creature collection's appearance.

Trivia

  • The Scientist profession is Jurassic Saga's equivalent to vanilla professions like Armorer or Toolsmith
  • The white lab coat design is inspired by the geneticists and scientists throughout the Jurassic Park franchise
  • Scientists are the only source of Chaos Effect and Legacy genes, making them essential for completionist players
  • The green dot on the lab coat may represent an ID badge or security clearance marker
  • Unlike vanilla villagers who work during the day, Scientists thematically represent 24/7 laboratory operations
