Recreative provides 4 main actions you can use in your JSON files to manipulate Creative Tabs.
1. Removing Tabs (remove_tab)
Hides specific tabs from the creative menu.
{"action": "remove_tab","tabs": ["minecraft:food_and_drinks","minecraft:spawn_eggs"]}
2. Modifying Tabs (modify_tab)
You can rename them, change their icon, remove specific items, or inject new items into them. You can also target specific Data Component variants (like enchanted books or potions)!
{"action": "modify_tab","tabs": ["minecraft:combat"],"name": "Weapons & Armor","icon": "minecraft:netherite_sword","remove_items": ["minecraft:wooden_sword",{"item": "minecraft:enchanted_book","components": {"minecraft:stored_enchantments": {"levels": {"minecraft:bane_of_arthropods": 1}}}}],"add_items": ["minecraft:diamond",{"item": "minecraft:potion","components": {"minecraft:potion_contents": "minecraft:strong_healing"}}]}
(Note: To learn how to insert items in specific spots, check out Advanced Item Placement.
3. Creating Custom Tabs (custom_tab)
Creates a brand new tab from scratch.
{"action": "custom_tab","tabs": ["my_pack:building_materials"],"name": "Custom Building Materials","icon": "minecraft:bricks","add_items": ["minecraft:stone","minecraft:cobblestone","minecraft:dirt"]}
4. Reordering Tabs (tab_order)
Forces tabs to appear in a specific order from left to right. Any tabs not included in this list will naturally fall in after the ones you specify.
{"action": "tab_order","order": ["minecraft:combat","minecraft:tools_and_utilities","my_pack:building_materials","minecraft:building_blocks"]}
Using Item Tags
You don't need to specify every single item by its ID. Anywhere that accepts an item ID in add_items or remove_items, you can use Item Tags by prefixing the ID with a # symbol.
This will automatically find all items registered to that tag and apply the action to them.
Example:
{"action": "modify_tab","tabs": ["minecraft:building_blocks"],"remove_items": ["#minecraft:logs","#minecraft:leaves"],"add_items": ["#c:ores"]}
