Portal to the Depths is a block.
Use the Portal with an empty hand to enter The Depths, a cavern dimension made mostly from Deepslate. Vanilla ores generate more densely than they do in the Overworld, making the dimension useful for mining.
The Depths also contains small caves, Deepslate pillars, Sculk veins, and the occasional Ancient City. It is much darker than an ordinary Overworld cave, and that darkness is dangerous in its own right: by default, players below light level 4 take 1 damage every 5 seconds.
Entering and Leaving
Each Portal creates or reuses a small arrival room in the Depths. The room contains another Portal; use it to return to the dimension and position of the Portal you entered through.
Your return point is saved on your player. If the return information is ever missing, using a Portal inside the Depths sends the player to the Overworld's shared spawn instead of leaving them trapped.
Portals whose arrival rooms would overlap may lead to the same room.
Configuration
Server owners can configure the amount of darkness damage, how often it is dealt, and the minimum light level considered safe.
