Diplomystus is a genus of small, deep-bodied fish closely related to modern herrings and sardines. Known for its laterally compressed profile and distinctive upturned mouth, Diplomystus was well suited to snatching smaller fish near the water's surface and is one of the most recognizable fish silhouettes to occupy the freshwater lakes it inhabited.

Appearance

• Small, deep-bodied fish with a strongly laterally compressed silhouette
• Distinctive upturned mouth angled for snatching prey near the surface
• Single spiny dorsal fin set roughly mid-back, with a forked tail fin
• Large, prominent eye and a slender caudal region
• Coloration ranges from lighter tan-brown to darker reddish-maroon between individuals
• In-game size: less than 1 block long and less than 1 block tall

Behavior

• Passive: non-aggressive and will not attack players or other passive creatures
• Frequently found in schools; grouping reduces predation risk
• Prefers calm waters such as lakes, slow rivers, and sheltered bays
• Easily preyed upon by larger aquatic predators and wading creatures

Obtaining

Diplomystus does not spawn naturally. To obtain one, you must:

1. Find Diplomystus Remains or fossils
2. Use the fossil revival process to create a Diplomystus
3. Hatch from a Fish Egg type egg
