Fossils and Remains are the two primary sources of biological material in Jurassic Saga. Both are essential for crafting, progression, and extracting DNA used in creature resurrection.
- Remains come from living creatures (mob drops).
- Fossils come from ancient geological deposits (underground fossil ores).
Together, they form the backbone of the mod’s genetic system.
Remains
Remains are biological leftovers obtained from specific creatures.
Each species drops its own unique Remains, which can be processed for DNA or used in crafting.
Obtaining Remains
- Dropped by defeating certain creatures.
- Each species has a unique Remains item
- e.g., Tyrannosaurus Remains, Velociraptor Remains.
Usage of Remains
Crafting
- Used in various recipes, including the Guidebook.
Genetic Analyzer
- Insert Remains to extract a random percentage of DNA from that exact species.
- DNA yield varies; collecting multiple samples increases accuracy and completion.
Notes
- Species‑specific — Remains cannot be mixed or substituted.
- A core component of the early‑game genetic progression loop.
Fossils
Fossils are ancient biological traces preserved in stone and found as Fossil Ores.
Each fossil ore corresponds to a specific geological era and environment:
- Marine — oceanic or coastal organisms
- Fluvial — river, swamp, or floodplain organisms
Types of Fossil Ores
Carboniferous
- Carboniferous Marine Fossil Ore
- Carboniferous Fluvial Fossil Ore
Permian
- Permian Marine Fossil Ore
- Permian Fluvial Fossil Ore
Triassic
- Triassic Marine Fossil Ore
- Triassic Fluvial Fossil Ore
Jurassic
- Jurassic Marine Fossil Ore
- Jurassic Fluvial Fossil Ore
Cretaceous
- Cretaceous Marine Fossil Ore
- Cretaceous Fluvial Fossil Ore
Paleogene
- Paleogene Marine Fossil Ore
- Paleogene Fluvial Fossil Ore
Neogene
- Neogene Marine Fossil Ore
- Neogene Fluvial Fossil Ore
Quaternary
- Quaternary Fluvial Fossil Ore
Example Fossil Drops
Drop tables vary depending on the fossil type.
Below are sample results from testing 64 blocks of each ore:
Carboniferous Marine Fossil Ore
- 28.8% Cobblestone
- 29.4% Bones
- 9.4% Carboniferous Marine Deposit
- 32.5% Flint
Carboniferous Fluvial Fossil Ore
- 18.5% Cobblestone
- 8.1% Carboniferous Plant Fossil
- 21.3% Flint
- 10.9% Carboniferous Megabug Part in Amber
- 14.7% Bones
- 26.5% Carboniferous Plants in Amber
Y‑Level Generation
Current known generation levels:
- Carboniferous Marine Fossil Ore — Unknown
- Carboniferous Fluvial Fossil Ore — Unknown
(More Y‑level data will be added as exploration continues.)
