Genetic Modifications

Genes are items that can be applied to prehistoric creatures to change appearance, behavior, stats, or biological traits. Some genes are cosmetic only; others provide functional bonuses that affect combat, survival, or life cycle. Not every gene works on every creature. Some genes are stackable, some are species-restricted, and some are unimplemented or reserved for future updates.

Categories

Cosmetic Genes

Purely visual changes that alter a creature's texture, pattern, or coloration. Cosmetic genes do not change stats or behavior.

Examples:

  • Arid Cosmetic
  • Pasture Cosmetic
  • Ocean Cosmetic
  • Taiga Cosmetic
  • Species-specific cosmetics such as Chaos Effect, Forest, etc.

Functional Genes

Modify stats, abilities, or life cycle. See the list below for details and current status.

Functional Genes

Each entry lists the gene name, its effect, and whether it is currently implemented.

Aggressive Instinct

  • Effect: Increases aggression by 0.25

Bone Density

  • Effect: +10 Armor Toughness; +10 Armor

Cathemeral Active Time

  • Effect: Under development

Crepuscular Active Time

  • Effect: Under development

Frequent Ovulation

  • Effect: Increases breeding frequency

Gender Lean (Male / Female)

  • Effect: Forces the creature to the specified gender

Immune Response

  • Effect: Under development

Infertility

  • Effect: Prevents the creature from breeding

Intensive Repair

  • Effect: Increases natural regeneration from 1 heart to 5 hearts

Intolerance Time

  • Effect: Under development

Lightweight Skeleton

  • Effect: +0.25 movement speed

How to Obtain Genes

Genes are not dropped by mobs. Use a Syringe on a specific vanilla mob to extract that mob's associated gene.

Usage

  • Apply genes using the DNA Modifier component
  • Cosmetic genes override the creature's default texture immediately
  • Functional genes apply their stat or behavior changes immediately upon application
  • Some genes stack (for example, Macrosoma and Microsoma); stacking limits are noted above
  • Genes are permanent once applied and cannot be removed

Notes & Limitations

  • Species restrictions: Some genes will not apply to certain creatures
  • Unimplemented genes: Genes marked as "Under development" have no effect until implemented
  • Balance: Applying multiple powerful genes can significantly change gameplay balance
  • Irreversibility: Genes cannot be removed after application

Trivia

  • The genetic modification system in Jurassic Saga is inspired by the DNA manipulation featured in Jurassic World Evolution
  • Multiple genes from the same mob (like Llama providing both Steppe Cosmetic and Lysine Deficiency) reference the complexity of real genetic engineering
