Deinonychus, meaning "terrible claw," is a genus of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous of North America.
It is one of the most significant dinosaurs in paleontological history its discovery played a major role in establishing the connection between dinosaurs and modern birds.
Appearance
- Medium-sized, lightly built dromaeosaurid with strong hind limbs
- Prominent sickle claw on the second toe, typical of raptors
- Likely feathered, though exact coverage is unknown
- Male: Rich dark-brown base coat with bold golden-yellow spots and blotches across the back, sides, and tail, reminiscent of a leopard's pattern; cream-white underbelly
- Female: Uniformly dark brown across the entire body with no spotting for better camouflage; cream-white underbelly
