Dimorphodon is an early Jurassic pterosaur known for its large, deep skull and heterodont dentition — two distinct tooth shapes in the same jaw. It lived along coastal cliffs and forested shorelines and represents one of the better‑known non‑pterodactyloid pterosaurs from Europe.
Appearance
- Large, bulky skull with strong jaws and two distinct tooth types (long fang‑like anterior teeth and smaller posterior teeth).
- Shorter wings relative to body size compared with many later pterosaurs; robust limbs and long, stiffened tail.
- Strong claws on hands and feet adapted for climbing and gripping perches.
- In‑game size: 3 blocks long and 1 block tall (represents a compact body with a wingspan scaled down from fossil estimates).
Behavior
- Hostile: Will attack players if provoked or when defending territory.
- Likely a perch‑and‑pounce hunter that used strong limbs and claws to climb and launch into short, powerful flights rather than long soaring.
- Hunts small vertebrates and large invertebrates; may scavenge opportunistically.
- When threatened, Dimorphodon may attempt to flee to higher ground or cling to vertical surfaces using its claws.
Obtaining
Dimorphodon does not spawn naturally. To obtain one, you must:
- Enable Experimental Features
- Find
Dimorphodon Remains or fossils
- Use the fossil revival process to create a Dimorphodon
- Hatch from a Chicken type egg
Diet
- Carnivore: feeds on
meat sources - Paleontological evidence and functional anatomy suggest a diet of insects and small vertebrates (lizards, small mammals, juvenile dinosaurs), with some authors also proposing occasional piscivory depending on local habitat.
Drops
When defeated, Dimorphodon may drop:

Mr. DNA's Fun Trivia
- Dimorphodon's diet varied from small vertebrates like small sphenodontians, to small invertebrates like insects!
- Dimorphodon's head was large and bulky, something unusual for a pterosaur, however the weight of it's head was reduced by large openings separate from eachother by thin bony partitions!
- Dimorphodon was a poor flyer, as it's wings were proportionally short in relation to it's body, offering little gliding potential, and thus it relied on frantic short flights instead!
- The male Dimorphodon is based on it's depiction in The Lost World: Jurassic Park for the Playstation and Sega Saturn, the very first appearance of Dimorphodon in Jurassic Park media
- The first specimens were discovered in the Lyme Regis area of southern England in the early 19th century; the discovery helped establish pterosaurs as a distinct group of flying reptiles.
